Make the thumbnails in Canva, let YouTube's own test pick the winner.
The thumbnail is the biggest lever on whether a video gets watched. Patricia builds the variants in Canva, runs them through YouTube's native thumbnail test, and reports the one that earned the most watch time per impression.

@Pati Northwind's new long-form has a poor click-through. Can we test a different thumbnail?
Worth it. The video sits at 3.1% click-through against 4,900 impressions, so the reach is there but the packaging is not landing. YouTube's own Test and Compare serves several thumbnails on the same impressions and keeps the one with the best watch time per impression, so I built three off Northwind's brand template in Canva:
- Variant A: face plus a three-word hook, high contrast
- Variant B: the result number front and center, no face
- Variant C: before-and-after split, minimal text
- Plan: load all three into YouTube's Test and Compare so they run on the same impressions and it keeps the one that holds the most watch time, not just the most clicks. Nothing changes on the video until you approve.

Run it. Load all three.
All three are loaded into YouTube's Test and Compare and the test is running, so YouTube splits impressions across them and calls the winner on watch time per impression, not raw clicks. I held the title as-is so the thumbnail is the only thing that moves, then I will report which one won and by how much. The current Short is still their best traffic source this week at 6,200 views, so I will cut two more Shorts from this long-form to feed it while the test runs.

What YouTube and Canva do together.
Each is useful alone. Joined, they answer the question neither can on its own.
Test three YouTube thumbnails at once by building the variants in Canva
The thumbnail drives whether a video gets picked up more than anything else. She builds variants off your brand template in Canva and loads them into YouTube's native Test and Compare, which serves them on equal impressions and keeps the one that earns the most watch time, so the winner is decided by the platform, not guessed.
Turn one long-form into Shorts cuts in Canva and schedule them to YouTube
Shorts are the discovery engine that feeds the channel. She cuts vertical Shorts from the long-form in Canva, exports them to the right dimensions, and uploads or schedules them to YouTube on your approval, so one recording works both formats.
See whether the click problem is impressions or the thumbnail
Low views can mean YouTube is not serving the video or the packaging is not earning the click. She reads impressions and click-through from YouTube next to the Canva thumbnail, so you know whether to rework the art or the topic.
Refresh the packaging on a video that is quietly decaying
A video that used to perform and has faded rarely needs re-shooting, it needs a new thumbnail. She flags the decliner from channel stats and rebuilds its thumbnail in Canva, ready to test once you say go.
Compare Shorts against long-form on view-through and report it
She pulls views, average view duration, and click-through per format from YouTube and lines the Canva-made Shorts against the long-form, so the weekly report shows which format actually earns the watch time, not just the upload count.

Mention @Pati with the job. She builds in Canva and reads YouTube stats on her own; uploading a video or starting a thumbnail test on a live video waits for your yes.

FAQ
YouTube + Canva, answered.
What does connecting YouTube and Canva together let Patricia do?
She builds thumbnails and Shorts cuts in Canva, uploads or schedules them to YouTube, loads a set of thumbnails into YouTube's native Test and Compare to run them head to head, and reads impressions, watch time per impression, and view duration back to call the winner. Canva makes the art, YouTube's own test decides which one earns the most watch time, and neither does that on its own.
Does she publish or start a thumbnail test without asking?
No. Building variants in Canva and reading YouTube stats run on their own. Uploading a video, scheduling a Short, or starting a thumbnail test on a live video waits for your explicit yes in Slack.
Do I need both connected?
For the loop, yes: Canva to build the thumbnail and the Shorts cut, YouTube to publish and to run the test that reads watch time per impression. Each also works on its own, this page is about what they do together.
Does this work across all our client channels?
Yes. Connect each client's YouTube channel and Canva workspace, and every client's videos, thumbnails, and designs stay walled off from the rest.
What does it cost?
