For most small businesses, the best AI employee is Lindy: it runs the owner's inbox, calendar and follow-ups from Slack, iMessage or email, from $29.99 a month per active user. If your small business is a marketing agency, or your team runs its marketing in Slack or Microsoft Teams, Patricia is the better fit at $45 a month for the whole workspace, every seat included. For customer support pick Intercom Fin, for a Microsoft 365 company pick Copilot Studio, and for a solo owner who needs content help pick Sintra.

We make Patricia, so weigh that. We put Lindy first because, for the average small business, it is the better pick.

What is an AI employee?

An AI employee is software you hand a whole recurring job to, the way you'd brief a new hire. Lindy's own definition is a good one: "AI you hand whole jobs to, the way you would a new hire."

Three things separate it from a chatbot: it works where your team works, it runs on a schedule, and it has a rule for what waits for a person.

The tools on this list come in four shapes:

  • Managed AI employees. You connect your tools and brief it. Lindy, Patricia, Junior.
  • Packaged helpers. A fixed cast of personas, one per task. Sintra.
  • Builder platforms. You design and maintain each agent. Zapier Agents, Copilot Studio, Relevance AI.
  • Single-job specialists. Intercom Fin for support.

How we picked

The reader: the owner of a small business with 1 to a handful of people, who wants hours back and has no developer. Each tool was judged on four questions.

  1. Day-one job. What does it take off your plate before you build anything?
  2. Where it works. Slack, Teams, email, its own app, or a mix.
  3. Cost for a small team. Per user, per workspace, per outcome, or per credit pack.
  4. What waits for you. Does it ask before it sends, spends or changes something?

The 8 AI employees, ranked for a small business

Best for most small businesses

1. Lindy

What it does
Lindy calls itself "the AI employee that plugs into your tools, learns how you work, and takes real work off your plate." It drafts, schedules and replies from your inbox, answers in Slack threads, works over iMessage, and runs routines on a schedule: "A morning brief, a Monday report, a Friday nudge, whatever you set."
Price
Free: $50 in credits for 7 days. Team: $29.99 a month for 3,000 credits, and "Every active user in your workspace is billed." Credits pool across the team. Top-ups cost $10 per 1,000 credits.
What waits for you
"Nothing irreversible happens without your approval." SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA, with a signed BAA on Enterprise.
Watch out for
Per-user billing: 5 active users cost $149.95 a month before top-ups. Microsoft Teams shows up only as an integration logo on its home page, not as a place Lindy runs.
Pick it if
The owner's inbox and calendar are the bottleneck. Patricia vs Lindy.
Best for agencies and marketing teams

2. Patricia

What it does
Patricia is an AI coworker for small marketing agencies. She works inside Slack and Microsoft Teams and runs the recurring client work: weekly and monthly client reports, ad spend and anomaly alerts on Google Ads, Meta Ads and LinkedIn Ads, call recaps, content briefs, ad variants, SEO drafts and follow-ups. She keeps a shared memory of the agency's client work.
Price
Founding plan, $45 a month per workspace, every seat included, never per seat. 20,000 credits included every month; credits never expire and roll over. Extra credits cost $2.25 per 1,000. A client report uses about 300 credits (about $0.68), an ad variant about 56 (about $0.13). You start with $100 of free credits. Pricing.
What waits for you
By default she asks before she spends ad budget or sends anything to a client. Other actions follow your approval settings. You can set a monthly spend cap. SOC 2 Type II audited, data hosted in the US.
Watch out for
She is built for marketing work. A dental practice or a plumber who needs an inbox assistant gets more from Lindy. Onboarding is a dedicated session with our team today; self-serve onboarding with step-by-step tutorial videos launches soon.
Pick it if
You run an agency or an in-house marketing team, and the Monday report, the ad checks and the client follow-ups eat your week. The AI business assistant page shows what she does for an agency, job by job.

Best for role-based AI hires

3. Junior

What it does
You hire a Junior for a role, and it works from Slack or Teams with its own work devices: "computer, email, browser, etc", which Junior does not charge for separately.
Price
Free trial with a $100 credit for a limited time, one Junior, one trial per workspace or business domain. Standard from $100 a month: you pick a budget from $100 to $20,000 and run up to 5 Juniors. Enterprise is custom.
Watch out for
The pricing page does not state the trial length. You shape each role yourself.
Pick it if
You want a self-serve trial in Slack or Teams and you know which role you are hiring for.
Best for solo owners on a budget

4. Sintra

What it does
12 AI helpers for social media, sales, SEO, copywriting, email and support, on "One easy-to-use platform", with a Brain AI that learns your business.
Price
1-month plan $48.50 a month (sale price, from $97). 12-month plan $15.60 a month (sale price, from $52). Every plan has all 12 helpers and 250 monthly credits. A single helper is $39 a month. 14-day money-back guarantee; no free trial is listed.
Watch out for
Slack and Teams are not mentioned on its pricing page. 250 credits a month is a light allowance, and credits reset monthly.
Pick it if
You work alone and want help with posts, copy and emails at the lowest entry price.
Best for builders

5. Zapier Agents

What it does
"Zapier Agents are the easiest way to delegate real work to AI." You build agents that act across 9,000+ apps, starting from templates such as Slack responders.
Price
Billed in activities. Free: 400 a month. Pro: 1,500 a month, from about $33.33 a month billed annually.
Watch out for
You build and maintain each agent. The Agents page does not describe an approval step before an agent acts.
Pick it if
You already run Zaps and enjoy wiring things together.
Best for Microsoft 365 companies

6. Microsoft Copilot Studio

What it does
"A platform for creating and managing custom agents, workflows, and apps with no code." Agents publish to Teams, SharePoint and Copilot Chat.
Price
$200 a month per pack of 25,000 Copilot Credits, shared across the tenant, or pay-as-you-go with an Azure subscription. Agents published to Microsoft 365 Copilot are covered by that license.
Watch out for
It suits a company with someone who runs its Microsoft admin. You build the agents.
Pick it if
Your business already lives in Outlook and Teams.
Best for custom agent teams

7. Relevance AI

What it does
A builder for custom agents and multi-agent "workforces", with 2,000+ integrations.
Price
The public pricing page shows Enterprise only, through sales. Its docs list Pro at $19 a month billed yearly ($29 monthly) and Team at $234 billed yearly ($349 monthly), and say the Free plan is retired.
Watch out for
You design each agent and the rules it follows.
Pick it if
You have an ops person who will own the agents.
Best for customer support

8. Intercom Fin

What it does
An AI agent that answers and resolves support conversations. Intercom says you can "Use Fin with your current helpdesk including Salesforce and more."
Price
From $0.99 per Fin outcome, with no seat fee for Fin. Intercom's own seats start at $19 a month on Essential for new customers.
Watch out for
Support only. It will not run your reports or your inbox.
Pick it if
Most of your hours go to answering the same customer questions.

Compare a month of your real jobs, never the price per credit. A good test: list the 3 jobs you'd hand over, count how often each runs a month, and ask each vendor what that month costs.

How to choose in 5 minutes

Pick by the job that costs you the most hours today:

  • Your inbox and calendar → Lindy.
  • Client reports, ad checks and client follow-ups → Patricia.
  • A defined role, such as a media buyer or account manager → Junior.
  • Posts, copy and emails, working alone → Sintra.
  • Custom flows across many apps → Zapier Agents, or Relevance AI if you have an ops lead.
  • Everything already in Microsoft 365 → Copilot Studio.
  • Support tickets → Intercom Fin.

Then run one job for two weeks on real work. Count the edits you make before you hit send. If the count drops in week two, add the next job.

Where Patricia is the wrong pick

If your business is a shop, a clinic, a law office or a trade, and the pain is email and scheduling, Lindy is the better pick. Patricia's jobs are marketing jobs.

If you want an agent that pauses ads and moves budget on its own, Patricia asks first by default. If you need data hosted in the EU, Patricia is hosted in the US. If support tickets are the problem, Intercom Fin does that one job deeper than any general AI employee.

If you run an agency, the best AI coworkers for agencies list compares the tools built for client work.

FAQ

What is the best AI employee for a small business?

For most small businesses, Lindy: it runs the owner's inbox, calendar and follow-ups from Slack, iMessage or email, from $29.99 a month per active user. If the business is a marketing agency or runs its marketing in Slack or Microsoft Teams, Patricia fits better at $45 a month for the whole workspace. Intercom Fin fits customer support, Copilot Studio fits a Microsoft 365 company, and Sintra fits a solo owner who needs content help.

How much does an AI employee cost a small business?

At list prices on 3 November 2026, a 5-person team pays $45 a month for Patricia (per workspace), from $100 for Junior, and $149.95 for Lindy ($29.99 per active user). Copilot Studio is $200 per pack of 25,000 credits, and Intercom Fin is billed from $0.99 per outcome.

Can I hire an AI employee for free?

You can test most of them for free. Lindy gives $50 in credits for 7 days. Junior gives a $100 credit for a limited time. Zapier Agents has a free tier with 400 activities a month. Patricia gives $100 of free credits, with a dedicated onboarding on your own work. Sintra has a 14-day money-back guarantee instead of a trial. Relevance AI's docs say its Free plan is retired.

It depends on the tool. Lindy says nothing irreversible happens without your approval. Patricia asks before she spends ad budget or sends anything to a client, by default, and other actions follow your approval settings. The Zapier Agents page does not describe an approval step, so you set it up per agent.
